At BTI, Phumlani oversees large-scale supplementary education programs reaching up to 1,000 Grade 12 learners annually across KwaZulu-Natal. Sthembile Ntsele serves as the Finance and Administration Manager at BTI and is also a lecturer in the Department of Accounting, Finance, and Economics at the University of Fort Hare in the Eastern Cape. She holds a B. Com degree and a Master of Commerce from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, as well as an MBA from MANCOSA, building on more than 20 years of experience in finance, administration, and management. Her career includes leadership roles in the banking sector, notably at Capitec Bank, where she excelled in sales management, business analysis, and strategic planning. Dr. MT Mgwaba is the Chairperson, Co-Founder, and Trustee of BTI and currently serves as Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Built Environment in the College of Humanities at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He holds a PhD in Development Studies, with research focusing on social development, public health, and youth issues in South Africa. With over two decades of professional experience in academia, research, and senior leadership roles within the public sector, Dr. Mgwaba has published extensively on HIV/AIDS, youth culture, food insecurity, and socio-economic development. He has presented at both local and international conferences and participated in global academic exchange programmes. Mrs. PB Sikhakhane oversees all catering operations at BTI, managing multiple sites simultaneously through a team of site supervisors who coordinate the daily activities of cooks. She brings professional expertise from BJ’s Delectables and a passion for baking and cooking, complemented by formal training in Business Studies and a BBA from MANCOSA. Committed to community upliftment, she founded the support group “VIUVAS CAN SURVIVE” for widows and is planning a book on this initiative.

Phumlani Mazibuko serves as BTI’s Program Support Officer at the Pongola site, ensuring the smooth delivery of the Winter School Program. His role spans security coordination, learner logistics, classroom and facility readiness, and direct support to tutors. Phumlani also contributes to Monitoring and Evaluation by keeping accurate records, managing equipment, and submitting daily evidence through photographs and registers. Nokwanda has prior experience as a Computer Science Tutor at UCT’s Tugwell Hall Residence, where she supported learners through group sessions and one-on-one guidance. Her technical projects, including the Wi-Fi Tower Trading website and the Bua Sesotho language-learning game, highlight her ability to combine technical expertise with innovative teaching. Fluent in isiZulu and English, with knowledge of SASL, Xhosa, and Sesotho, she effectively connects with diverse learners. Her organizational skills, collaborative spirit, and commitment to education make her an asset to the BTI team.
